Our commitment to child safety

Samuel Gilbert OOSH is committed to the safety and wellbeing of all children and our community. We embed the National Principles for Child Safe Organisations and promote a culture where safety, security and belonging are prioritised.

Our service recognises the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC), which outlines that all children and young people have the right to be safe and cared for. We are guided by the Child Safe Standards recommended by the Royal Commission, ensuring our policies, procedures, and practices always place children’s safety at the forefront.

We uphold a zero tolerance to child abuse and are committed to the safety, participation, and empowerment of all children and young people. We ensure children’s voices are heard and respected in decisions that affect their lives.

Our educators, staff, volunteers and students complete current child protection training and understand their responsibilities as mandatory reporters. Through education and leadership, we strive to build a community where child safety is everyone’s responsibility.

We are committed to fostering a culturally safe environment, respecting and supporting all children, families, and educators. This includes:

• Promoting the cultural safety of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children
• Supporting the cultural safety of children from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds
• Providing a safe and inclusive environment for children with a disability

Our service has adopted the National Model Code and Guidelines including the safe use of electronic devices when taking images or video of children.

All allegations and safety concerns will be treated seriously and consistently with the law, regulations, and our service procedures. We have dedicated policies, procedures, subcommittees, and training in place to support our team in maintaining the highest standards of child safety.

Child Story
Child Story is an information technology system which places each child supported by the child protection system at the centre of their story with a network of family, carers, caseworkers and other service providers around them.  Child Story works directly with the people who work closely with these children to understand what it really takes to work with them. We’ve used this knowledge to build a new IT system to help protect children at risk.
